Can Seam Inspection: How-To Video

Regular can seam inspection is critical in protecting your canned beverage quality and goes hand-in-hand with reliable, repeatable seaming technology. Seam integrity should be checked daily during operation of any canning system. Moreover, you should include multiple testing procedures and measurements in your seam evaluation process.

Important components of a can’s double seam can only be evaluated by “tearing down” the seam. Learn two ways to inspect your can seams by watching our How To video demonstrating Manual Seam Tear-Down.

Once you have completed the seam tear-down process, refer to your can lid manufacturer’s double seam specifications to ensure your seams are within spec. Best practice: keep track of your measurement data!

Wild Goose Filling’s expert Technical Support team provides training on seam inspection and offers free”Seam School” sessions throughout the year as well. In addition, Wild Goose’s operational and maintenance manuals include detailed diagrams and explanations of double seam components, seamer tooling and more. The manuals also provide instruction on seam testing, micrometer usage, seamer adjustments and beyond.
